Muralidaran claims 800th Test wicket

GALLE: Retiring world bowling record holder Muttiah Muralidaran of Sri Lanka reached the 800-wicket mark with his last delivery in Test cricket on Thursday.

The off-spinner, 38, had last man Pragyan Ojha caught at slip by Mahela Jayawardene to terminate India’s second innings after lunch on the final day of the first Test at the Galle International Stadium.

Muralidaran, who has more Test and one-day (515) wickets than any bowler in history, will retire from Test cricket after the match.

India, who were made to follow on 244 runs behind, were all out for 338 in their second knock.

Sri Lanka need 95 to win the Test and take the lead in the three-match series.

“அன்னையும் பிதாவும் முன்னெறி தெய்வம்” என்பது நமது பால பாடம். கால மாற்றத்துக்கு ஏற்ப இதையும் நாம் மறந்து வருகிறோம். அப்பா -அம்மா, அண்ணன் – தம்பி – தங்கையுடன் கூட்டுக் குடும்பமாக வாழும் “தமிழர்” பண்பாட்டை கை கழுவி வருகிறோம்.

இதன் பலனாக சென்னை நகருக்கு புதிய பெருமை கிடைத்திருக்கிறது. அது… வயதான பெற்றோரை அவமதிப்பதில் முதல் இடம் பிடித்த நகரம் என்பது தான்.

வீட்டில் நிம்மதியாக இருக்க முடியவில்லை. எங்களை மனிதனாகவே குழந்தைகள் மதிப்பதில்லை. உடல் பலகீனம் காரணமாக நடக்கும் சின்ன தவறுகளை கூட பெரிதாக்கி கேவலப்படுத்துகிறார்கள். நல்ல விஷயங்களை அறிவுரையாகச் சொன்னாலும் கேட்பது இல்லை.

“மகனை எப்படி எல்லாம் வளர்த்தேன். மருமகளுடன் சேர்ந்து அவனும், எங்களை அவமதிப்பதை தாங்க முடியவில்லை. மனதை புண்படுத்தும் வார்த்தைகளை கேட்டு கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக சாவதை விட நிம்மதி தேடி முதியோர் இல்லம் வருகிறோம்.

எங்களால் முடிந்ததை சம்பாதித்து தனியாக வாழ்கிறோம்” என்ற பதில்கள் தான் பெரும்பாலான வயதான பெற்றோர்களிடம் இருந்து வருகிறது.

மருமகள்-மகன் கொடுமை தாங்காமல் பல வயதான பெற்றோர் போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்கே சென்று விடுகிறார்கள். இதில், 80 சதவீத புகார்களை போலீசார் கண்டுகொள்வதே இல்லை என்பதும் தெரிய வந்துள்ளது.

65.7 சதவீத முதியவர்கள் போலீசில் புகார் கொடுப்பதால் எந்த பயனும் ஏற்படாது என்று கருத்து தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். பெரியவர்களை 23.2 சத வீதம் பேர் கெட்ட வார்த்தைகளால் திட்டுவதாகவும், 3.6 சதவீதம் பேர் அடி- உதை படுவதாகவும் கூறி இருக்கிறார்கள்.

மொத்தத்தில் கூட்டி கழித்துப்பார்த்தால் முதியவர்களை, வயதான பெற்றோர்களை வாட்டி வதைப்பதில், மனம் நோகும்படி அவமதிப்பதில் சென்னை நகருக்கு முதல் இடம் என்பது தான் புள்ளி விபரம் தரும் வேதனையான விஷயம்.

நாம் குழந்தைகளாக இருந்த போது கண் போல் காத்து, உயிரைக் கொடுத்து வளர்த்த பெற்றோரும் வயதான காலத்தில் நமது குழந்தைகள் தான். அவர்கள் இல்லாமல் நாம் இல்லை. இதை மனதில் வைத்து முதியோர்களை மதிக்க கற்றுக் கொள்வோம். அவர்களது அனுபவத்தை ஏற்போம். உடல் பலகீனம் காரணமாக அவர்கள் செய்யும் சிறு தவறுகளை மறப்போம்.

நாளை நமக்கும் முதுமை உண்டு என்பதை மனதில் வைத்து முதியவர்களை மதிப்போம். முதியவர்களை அவமதிக்கும் சென்னை என்ற அவப்பெயரில் இருந்து விடுபடுவோம்.

Selectors take specialists on board for Asia Cup

“Why can’t there be two off-spinners in the side?” It was a question R Ashwin has posed in the last two years even as the Tamil Nadu off-spinner squinted at the mention of being a replacement for Harbhajan Singh.

Ashwin admits he never got an answer, or a logical explanation, to the query, though he has managed to tour with Team India for some time and made his international debut recently. On Monday, the selectors finally responded by including two specialist off-spinners � Harbhajan and Ashwin � in the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

Ashwin’s selection adds another interesting angle to the squad. The tweaker earned his fame with his ability to bowl the ‘carrom ball’, incidentally discovered in the last Asia Cup final as Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis dismantled India. A year after coming to terms with the mystery bowler, India are ready to unleash their own indigenous version.

While Ashwin versus Mendis, or Ashwin and Harbhajan in tandem, will remain a highlight, Yuvraj Singh � rather his exclusion from the squad � has grabbed most of the attention. The squad, announced in Delhi after a two hour deliberation, also includes left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha.

Calling on board: specialists

After an obsession with bits-and-pieces players and part-time bowlers, the selectors have gone for a revamp and decided to hand over the job to specialists. The team has seven genuine bowling options, and an all-rounder in Ravindra Jadeja cuts the team exactly in half between batting and bowling specialists.

The conditions in Dambulla require expertise � the low stands, open surroundings and the breeze are expected to assist swing, especially under lights when it gets cooler and the softer ball tends to hold on to the surface. This makes scoring a mighty task. With low-scoring being the norm there, the Asia Cup has provided ample scope and reason to adopt a specialists-only policy that Australia and England have endorsed successfully.

While Sachin Tendulkar sent a late request to be omitted, as he is enjoying a vacation with his family ahead of a gruelling season, Yusuf Pathan didn’t justify a recall on his performance.

Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Dhoni, Harbhajan, Virender Sehwag and Praveen Kumar are all back � the last two after recuperating from injuries. Ashok Dinda, despite an average series in Zimbabwe, retains a spot, largely due to his ability to swing and bowl at 140 kmph+ speed, as the last in the pace quartet. Dhoni’s Jharkhand state mate Saurabh Tiwary also earned his maiden India call. The selectors also resisted the temptation to include Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma on reputation. Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik and batsman Murali Vijay faced the axe after failing to grab the opportunities.

தமிழ்நாடு மற்றும் புதுச்சேரியில் பிளஸ்-2 தேர்வை 7 1/2 லட்சம் பேர் எழுதினார்கள். கடந்த ஆண்டை விட 42 ஆயிரத்து 55 மாணவ- மாணவிகள் கூடுதலாக எழுதினார்கள்.

மதிப்பீட்டு பணி முடிந்து மதிப்பெண் விவரங்கள் கம்ப்யூட்டரில் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டு தேர்வு முடிவு வெளியிட அரசு தேர்வுத்துறை தயார் நிலையில் உள்ளது.

இறுதி கட்டப்பணிகள் முடிக்கப்பட்டு பள்ளிக்கல்வித்துறை அமைச்சர் தங்கம் தென்னரசுவின் ஒப்புதல் பெறுவதற்காக அதிகாரிகள் நேற்று இரவு சென்றனர்.

பிளஸ்-2 தேர்வு முடிவுகளை வெளியிடுவதற்கு அமைச்சர் ஒப்புதல் வழங்கிவிட்டார். 14-ந்தேதி அல்லது 15-ந்தேதி தேர்வு முடிவுகள் வெளியாகும் என்று உயர் அதிகாரி ஒருவர் தெரிவித்தார்.

கடந்த ஆண்டு மே 14-ந்தேதி தேர்வு முடிவு வெளியானது. அதனால் அதே தேதியிலேயே இந்த ஆண்டும் வெளியாக அதிக வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது.

சட்டசபை கூட்டம் 14-ந்தேதி முடிவுபெறுகிறது. கூட்டம் முடிந்த மறுநாள் 15-ந் தேதி (சனிக்கிழமை) தேர்வு முடிவை வெளியிட்டால் எந்த பிரச்சினையும் இருக்காது என்றும் தேர்வுத்துறை கருதுகிறது. அதனால் 15-ந்தேதி வெளியாவதற்கும் வாய்ப்பு இருப்பதாக தேர்வுத்துறை வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.

கடந்த சில நாட்களாக தேர்வு முடிவுகளை அறிவிப்பதில் பல்வேறு தேதிகள் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டு மாறி இருந்த நிலையில் 14-ந்தேதி அல்லது 15-ந்தேதி என்பதில் எந்த மாற்றமும் இருக்காது. இதற்கான அதிகாரப்பூர்வமான அறிவிப்பு 13-ந் தேதி வெளியாகும் என்று எதிர் பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

Though it has been rumored that the film Sura which has Vijay in the lead is the remake of the Malayalam film Chotta Mumbai, the fact is that director S P Rajkumar has taken only one portion for the inspiration touch. Thamanna dons the role of a bubbly college girl and is the love interest of Vijay. It is guaranteed that Vijay will be rocking in the dance sequences. There are racy stunt scenes where Vijay fights with four villains which will bring you to the edge of your seat. The Telugu Magadheera villain poses a big challenge for Vijay in Sura. There are strong dialogues in this film which might provoke the politicians. Because of this these dialogues are being reshot. There will be no dearth for sensations.

OK. Now what is the story of Sura. Vijay like the MGR in Padagotti gets friendly with fishermen folks and begins his game. He is like a God to the fishing hamlets. He is fondly called Sura. When all are happy comes a silent tsunami in the form of smuggler big wig like Velu Naiker in Nayagan. He plans to curb the fishing hamlet lands in order to run his business smoothly. He tries to cheat the poor fishermen folk by saying that a big factory is going to come up in that area and promises to give lands in compensation. The news goes to Sura that these poor fishermen have been cheated. Now Vijay starts the hunting and the fisherman gets their justice, peace and happiness.

Since most of the story is happening in the sea, the shooting of the film took place in Pondicherry, Kerala and Thoothukudi. Nan Pura Illaada Sura ( I am not a dove but I am a shark) is the punch dialogue of Vijay in this film. Most of the stunt scenes have been shot in mid sea and in spite of his sea sickness, Vijay has excelled in the stunts scenes. As usual Vaali has penned the lyrics for the opening song and Kabilan has written a lyric which depicts Vijay’s personality and his ideals.
